Though students may have diverse ambitions, they should proactively use their education to help the marginalised and economically backward sections of society, A.M. Shahjahan, Minister for Minorities Welfare, said in Tiruchi on Friday.Addressing the Founders’ Day programme of the Jamal Mohamed College on Friday, the Minister said that the firm friendship between N.M. Khaja Mian Rowther and M. Jamal Mohamed had laid the foundation of the educational institutions that had empowered innumerable students since its establishment in 1951.“The college has played an important role in shaping future leaders of the nation, and everyone should emulate the founders to create opportunities for the less fortunate,” Mr. Shajahan said.S. Ahmed Meeran, managing director, The Professional Couriers, received the Jamalian Award for 2026.The Dr. Aleem Award for the Best Islamic Scientist was presented to N. Thajuddin, Pro Vice-Chancellor, B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology (Deemed to be University), Chennai.K. M. Kader Mohideen, national president, Indian Union Muslim League; M.A. Aleem, neurologist, and Mohamed Kasim, M.M.K. Hospital, Manapparai, were special invitees.Orator Suki Sivam delivered the keynote address.Prizes were distributed to winners of a State-level speech competition held to commemorate the Founders’ Day.
