An Ogun State chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party and convener of The Alternative Movement, Otunba Segun Showunmi, has cautioned against what he described as the media trial of the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations surrounding the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.
In a statement titled, “The Burden of the Chief of Staff: Why Silence Is Often Mistaken for Guilt,” Showunmi urged Nigerians to allow due process and the rule of law to take their course rather than rush to judgment.
His reaction followed allegations by one Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claimed he was appointed Director-General of the purported council through a letter allegedly issued by Gbajabiamila.
Gbajabiamila has denied the allegations and, through his lawyer, threatened a N10bn defamation suit.
He also demanded that Adeyemi retract the claims, apologise in at least five national newspapers and remove all related materials from social media and other platforms.
