Fresh pressure is mounting on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, to order an immediate investigation into CSP Abdulmajeed Abisoye Oyewumi following the emergence of a video that shows the senior police officer celebrating his birthday with Chinese nationals currently standing trial over alleged illegal mining offences.
The video, obtained by SaharaReporters, shows Oyewumi seated at a table surrounded by Chinese nationals, with an array of dishes and a cake before him. As they sang “Happy Birthday to You,” he leaned forward and blew out the candles on the cake.
The video has triggered widespread concern, with anti-corruption advocates and stakeholders demanding an urgent probe into an alleged improper relationship between the officer and the Chinese defendants.
