The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Friday alleged that the coalition government neglected the education sector, claiming that textbooks, uniforms and shoes had not been distributed even a month after schools reopened, and that government schools were being weakened to benefit private institutions.Addressing a press conference at Tadepalli, YSRCP leader Adimulapu Suresh said the reforms introduced by the previous government had been dismantled, forcing parents to turn to corporate schools. He claimed that the number of students in government schools had fallen sharply from 43 lakh to 30 lakh, reflecting rising dropout rate and the government’s failure to strengthen public education.Mr. Suresh said HRD Minister Nara Lokesh was “unfit to hold the portfolio” due to the government’s poor handling of the sector. He claimed that YSRCP’s flagship initiatives such as ‘Goru Mudda’ and Nadu-Nedu had either been diluted or discontinued. He claimed the the YSRCP government had upgraded 44,000 schools under the Nadu-Nedu programme by providing facilities such as compound walls, toilets, drinking water, furniture and other infrastructure. He also alleged that English-medium instruction, digital classrooms and subject teacher reforms had been abandoned by the present government.Mr. Suresh further claimed that the education system was reverting to the pre-2019 situation, with private schools benefiting at the expense of government institutions. He also alleged irregularities in the DSC teacher recruitment process, accusing the government of favouritism and nepotism. Published - July 10, 2026 08:41 pm IST
