The Pollachi Municipality has made it mandatory for its officials and employees to declare the cash they carry while reporting for duty by recording the amount and its purpose in a register maintained at the office, as part of its measures to prevent bribery allegations and to promote transparency.Under the new system, employees should enter the amount of cash in their possession, the purpose for carrying it, and sign the register before proceeding to their respective sections. The municipality has also displayed notices directing the public to make all payments, including taxes and fees for birth and death certificates, only at the ground-floor cash collection centre. Visitors have also been advised not to carry cash into other office sections.Municipal officials said the measure was introduced following the recent surprise inspections conducted by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) at Municipal Corporations, Municipalities and Panchayat offices across the State. They said employees often carry cash for personal expenses such as fuel, medical needs, public transport or grocery purchases. Recording these details will help establish that the money was meant for personal use during vigilance inspections and avoid unnecessary allegations. Published - July 10, 2026 07:50 pm IST
