A South Korean government investment agency has announced that the 8,900km (5,530 miles) AUG East subsea cable will land in Saemangeum, a soon-to-be reclaimed wetland on the country’s west coast in the Yellow Sea.
South Korean telco Dreamline signed an agreement with the Saemangeum Development Authority and several other governmental agencies to build the cable landing station in the Saemangeum National Industrial Complex, the planned industrial hub that will be built on reclaimed land.

Construction is set to begin in January 2027.
AUG East, which stands for Asia United Gateway East, will also have branching lines connected to Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Taiwan, with completion targeted for Q3 2029.
