Upsets in competitive esports are supposed to be the exception. At MSI 2026 in Daejeon, South Korea, LYON made them look routine.
The LCS squad, built around Polish jungler Kacper “Inspired” Słoma, swept G2 Esports 3-0 in Lower Bracket Round 3 on July 9-10, sending one of Europe’s most decorated organizations home without a single map win. For context, G2 had just knocked out T1 3-1 in their previous lower bracket series. The bounce from that result lasted approximately one round.
How the upset unfolded
Commentators covering the series noted LYON’s execution throughout all three games as unusually clean, the kind of disciplined macro play that does not leave opponents room to find a way back. A 3-0 in a best-of-five at a major international event is not luck.
Inspired was the name on everyone’s lips coming in. The Polish jungler has been one of the more compelling narratives of recent competitive League of Legends, a player who came up through European solo queue and built a reputation as someone capable of dictating the pace of a game from the jungle position. Playing against G2, a team deeply familiar with that style of play given their own history in the LEC, made LYON’s sweep land even harder.
