The organisation further described her continued detention as "a blatant abuse of power", adding that it reflects "a very worrying indication of the security agency's lack of respect for human rights and the rule of law."
Amnesty International has called on the Nigerian government and the Department of State Services (DSS) to immediately and unconditionally release journalist Zainab Sodiq, describing her continued detention as a violation of her fundamental rights and an attack on press freedom.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the human rights organisation lamented that Ms Sodiq’s arrest was connected to her possession of a DJI Mavic Air drone without an End User Certificate.
"The Department of State Services (DSS) must immediately and unconditionally release journalist Zainab Sodiq," the organisation said.
According to the statement, "the circumstances of her arrest strongly suggest that she is being targeted solely for her legitimate work as a journalist and that the official justification offered for her detention is being used as a pretext to prevent her from carrying out her professional duties and to unlawfully interfere with the public's right to seek, receive and impart information."
