The coalition noted that only a well-resourced justice and security architecture can proactively prevent crime, ensure timely justice delivery, and guarantee the protection of lives and property across the country.

A coalition of Southern civil society and community-based organisations in Nigeria has called for the urgent strengthening and adequate funding of Nigeria's judiciary, intelligence community, and security agencies.

The coalition noted that only a well-resourced justice and security architecture can proactively prevent crime, ensure timely justice delivery, and guarantee the protection of lives and property across the country.

The demand formed part of a 15-point communiqué issued at the end of the 2026 Southern Civil Society Organisations Summit held in Lagos on Wednesday under the theme, "Nigeria First."

The groups, operating under the umbrella of Civil Society Organisation on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI) and comprising accredited Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), said addressing Nigeria's security challenges requires stronger institutions capable of preventing crime, ensuring justice, and safeguarding citizens.
