A coalition of civil society groups has accused Nigerian authorities of worsening insecurity and failing to protect citizens, alleging that mass killings, kidnappings, torture and impunity have reached alarming levels across the country.

The group, under the banner of the National Coalition Against Mass Killings, Extra-Judicial Killings, Mob Actions and Impunity, made the claims in a press statement issued on Wednesday, saying Nigeria was “bleeding while governments play politics.”

The coalition said communities nationwide are increasingly under attack, alleging that schools have become unsafe, while children, teachers and families continue to be targets of armed groups and criminal gangs.

It claimed that between January 1 and May 28, 2026, hundreds of children had been abducted, dozens killed, and at least 81 schoolchildren were still in captivity. It also alleged that over 1,100 persons were kidnapped in northern Nigeria within the same period.
