Human rights activist ans executuve of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Segun Oluwasanmi, has rejected the resolutions adopted at the recently concluded Southern Civil Society Organisations Summit in Lagos.
He alleged that participants were misled into endorsing a political agenda aimed at weakening the independence of civil society organisations.
In a statement titled "CSO's Disappointing Action Misleading," Oluwasanmi said he attended the July 7–9, 2026, summit at the Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos, only to realise that the organisers allegedly had a predetermined agenda to shift civil society groups from holding government accountable to collaborating with political authorities.
According to him, he attended the summit for networking and knowledge acquisition but became suspicious when organisers reportedly urged participants not to be "confrontational" towards the government.
