The City of Tshwane has placed city manager Johann Mettler on precautionary suspension pending an independent investigation into allegations of maladministration and irregular appointments.

Tshwane city manager Johann Mettler has been placed on precautionary suspension after the council voted in favour of his suspension following a complaint lodged by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

The vote took place behind closed doors on Thursday.

The move comes after Tshwane EFF leader Obakeng Ramabodu tabled a 45-page report accusing Mettler of maladministration and irregular appointments.

Ramabodu alleged that Mettler irregularly recruited the city's Emergency Medical Services chief and failed to conduct mandatory vetting during the appointments of Ashraf Adam as a senior manager and Revo Spies as deputy chief of the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD).
