MADRID – Chinese car manufacturing giant SAIC concluded its first test operation at the Port of Ferrol in Spain’s northwestern region of Galicia as it moves towards establishing its first logistical base in Europe.
A SAIC vessel finished unloading more than 700 vehicles at Ferrol’s outer port on Thursday, preparing them for distribution across Spain.
According to local media reports, the operation is intended as a trial run to assess the port’s logistics and local infrastructure for the future assembly plant that the Chinese state-owned firm plans to set up in the area.
Alfonso Rueda, the regional leader of Galicia, celebrated the completion of cargo unloading as the first step towards the Chinese giant’s establishment in the deindustrialised region.
