The most popular baby names of 2025 have been revealed by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) and as well as some new additions, some have been dropped from the top 100 entirely14:15, 09 Jul 2026The most popular baby names in England and Wales have been announced - but away from the winners, which monikers are falling out of favour with parents?While some names have retained their top spots in the past 12 months - Muhammad and Olivia respectively - others have dropped out of the list entirely, including some names you'd always hear in the playground.The top ten baby names chosen for little girls are Olivia, Lily, Amelia, Isla, Florence, Freya, Poppy, Elsie, Ivy and Isabella, according to 2025 data released today by the Office of National Statistics (ONS).Lily and Amelia have swapped places this year, with the latter moving from third to second. Ivy, meanwhile, has moved from 5th to 9th, and there is a new entry in the list - Frankie, in 100th place. Chloe, meanwhile, has dropped a huge 17 places, and now sits at number 89.At the top of the list for lads is Muhammad, followed (in order) by Noah, Leo, Luca, Arthur, Oliver, George, Oscar, Theodore, and Freddie. While the top two remain unchanged, Oliver has taken a nosedive from third to 6th, while Leo has moved up from 5th to 3rd. Royal-inspired names have also seen some changes, with Archie moving down from 10th to 11th, and George moving from 6th to 7th.But what about the names that have dropped off the top 100 list entirely? Monikers no longer featured include Jessica, which is down a huge 44 places, Ellie (down 31 places), and Amelie (down 22 places) for little girls. Interestingly, Jessica has previously been the number one baby name; it was the top choice in England and Wales in 2005.Previous entries for the boys no longer included are Bodhi (down 18 places), Grayson (down 14 places) and Brody (down 7 places). Leon has also fallen out of the top 100, having been placed 100th previously.In the world of newcomers, Eliana, Gracie, Alba and Lilah are among the debut entries in the top 100 list for girls. The data also shows a huge surge in popularity for the girls' name Ada, which was up 54 places to the 45th spot.Carter, Ruben, Stanley and Vincent are new names featured in the boys' list. Roman saw the biggest increase in popularity for boys and hit the 27th spot after rising 33 places.The final ten names in the list for girls - from 90th to 100th - are: Athena (which is actually up a whopping 248 places since last year), Bella, Darcie, Scarlett, Myla, Alba, Rosa, Marnie, Lara, Lilah and Frankie. For the boys it's Milo, Hunter, Ellis, Vincent, Bobby, Elliot, Ralph, Carter, Stanley, Nathan and Ruben.Charlie, meanwhile, is no longer in the top 20 for boys, having gone from 17th to 22nd, while Mason has dropped 14 places to 77th, and Jaxon has dropped 22 places to 88th.Article continues belowThe baby names list uses birth registration data from the last full calendar year.
