From firm favourites vanishing from the top 100 to newcomers vying for the number one spot, the latest data on the most popular baby names shows a big shift in trends10:13, 09 Jul 2026Updated 20:06, 09 Jul 2026The most popular baby names in the England and Wales have been revealed - and there's some huge changes in the top 100 lists for boys and girls.The annual data, released today by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), shows which monikers were favoured by parents in 2025 according to the most recent full year of birth registrations.While the number one spot for both boys and girls have remained the same, others that were vying for the crown have taken a nosedive.Muhammad dominates as the most popular boys' name for the third year running, having been in the top 10 since 2016. Meanwhile, Oliver has fallen from third to 6th.While Olivia remains the most popular name for girls for the second year running, Lily has moved up from third to second, Amelia has moved from second to third and popular name Ivy has declined from 5th to 9th.Further down the table we've seen some astonishing changes, with once-popular name Ellie vanishing from the top 100 altogether. For boys, Vinnie has moved up a whopping 33 places to 58th. It had gradually climbed the list in the last decade, ranking 20th in 2012 and came into the top 10 in 2016.Noah ranked second, and remained second this year, while Oliver was third last year and and Arthur was fourth compared to fifth this year.Brody was 99th last year, and has now completely gone from the top 100, as well as Leon which is no longer on the list.For girls, Olivia was number one last year, and again this year. Amelia was second, and Lily third. Isla was third and Ivy was fifth.Olivia and Amelia and held the top two spots for girls last year, but Amelia has now dropped to third, with Lily scooping the second slot. Olivia has proven to be continously popular, dominating the list for years.Royal names take a hitIt seems as though royal-inspired names are largely declining in popularity. Charlotte has gone down two ranks, from 23rd to 25th, however the shortened version Lottie has gone from 38th last year to 31st this year.Louis has moved down two places from 47th to 49th and George has moved from 6th to 7th.
