Ukraine's military said on Thursday that it struck 12 Russian tankers in the Sea of Azov overnight. It also added that the attack was part of its efforts to disrupt Russia's military supply routes and cut off support to Russian-occupied Crimea.In a statement on Telegram, Ukraine's general staff said, “The vessels were used to supply fuel to the Russian military, and to transport oil and petroleum products in circumvention of international sanctions.”The announcement marks the latest in a series of Ukrainian drone strikes targeting Russia's maritime logistics and ‘shadow fleet’, which Kyiv says helps finance Moscow's war effort through oil exports.Separately, Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) shared a video of the operation on X, claiming that multiple military units had jointly carried out the overnight strikes."12 More Tankers of russia's Shadow Fleet Struck. USF Operators Continue to Disrupt Enemy Maritime Logistics."According to the USF, operators of the 1st Separate Center, the 20th Separate K-2 Brigade, the 412th Separate Nemesis Brigade and the 413th Separate Regiment participated in the operation.The force also said additional vessels were targeted during the operation."Separately, operators of the 1st Separate Center struck a cargo ship, while operators of the 412th Separate Nemesis Brigade struck a tugboat."Claiming sustained attacks on Russian maritime assets, the USF added, "In total, over the past 96 hours, units of the Unmanned Systems Forces have struck 35 enemy vessels."The USF said Russia continued to rely on its "shadow fleet" to export oil despite international sanctions. "Despite international sanctions, russia continues to export oil through its shadow fleet, using the revenues to finance its war against Ukraine."It added that the operations were intended to weaken Russia's military capabilities, the USF wrote, "Operators of the Unmanned Systems Forces are systematically disrupting this logistics network, increasing economic pressure on the aggressor state and reducing its military potential."
