Solomon Slom

An 82-year-old former attorney who helped himself to nearly R40m entrusted to his law firm will spend the next 10 years behind bars.

NPA spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole said Solomon Slom, a former senior partner at Johannesburg law firm Fluxmans Incorporated, was convicted and sentenced in the specialised commercial crimes court sitting in Palm Ridge.

"Slom was convicted on all 290 counts, comprising 145 counts of theft and 145 counts of money laundering, arising from the misappropriation of approximately R39.8m from an escrow account entrusted to his care," Mohlatlole said.

"The court sentenced Slom to 10 years' imprisonment for the theft convictions and a further 10 years' imprisonment for the money laundering convictions."
