Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tshepo Masilela has questioned the club’s decision to sign goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner, insisting he remains unconvinced the former Sekhukhune United shot-stopper is the answer.

Chiefs announced the signing of Leaner on Monday after the 28-year-old joined the club as a free agent following his departure from Sekhukhune United. Leaner arrives at Naturena on the back of an impressive 2025/26 campaign, during which he earned his maiden Bafana Bafana call-up.

He joins a goalkeeping department that includes club captain Petersen, Bruce Bvuma, Rwanda international Fiacre Ntwari, Bontle Molefe and promising youngster Takalani Mazhamba, who recently graduated to South Africa’s Under-23 squad.

With the Glamour Boys set to compete in the Betway Premiership, MTN8 and CAF Confederation Cup this season, new goalkeeping coach Olivier Sorin is expected to rely on greater depth as the fixture list becomes increasingly demanding.
