Actor and presenter Nigel Havers appeared live on BBC Breakfast on Thursday morning10:06, 09 Jul 2026Updated 10:10, 09 Jul 2026Viewers of BBC Breakfast were left saying the same thing during the latest episode.‌Hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt returned to the famous red sofa on Thursday (July 9) to deliver the day's biggest headlines from across the UK and around the world.‌Later in the programme, Naga and Charlie discussed Ruth Ellis, after the last woman to be hanged in the UK was granted a conditional posthumous pardon.‌Ruth, who was from Rhyl in north Wales, was executed in 1955 for shooting dead her lover David Blakely outside a pub in north London, with her family saying she was a victim of domestic abuse.Ruth's granddaughter Laura Enston appeared on BBC Breakfast to discuss the posthumous pardon, alongside actor and presenter Nigel Havers, whose grandfather, Cecil Havers, presided over Ruth's case when it went to trial. Nigel even went on to play his grandfather in the ITV drama A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story.‌As viewers listened in to the interview, they were quickly left distracted by Nigel's stunning house as he appeared via a live video.Nigel could be seen in front of a beautiful living room, which was adorned with grand paintings, flowers and several lamps."I was just thinking what a lovely huge room with all his artwork, etc, he collects," one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter), while another added: "Nigel's house is beautiful."‌A third said: "Havers on the set of Waiting for God," with someone else sharing: "I want to move into Nigel Havers house. Not with Nigel Havers, just into his house. It's incredible."During the interview, Nigel said: "I was just aware of this, the case, since I was a young man. As I was very close to my grandfather, he talked about it at length."I do, first of all, want to thank the King and David Lammy for announcing this yesterday. It must have been quite something for them to do it. It stayed, as I said, with my grandfather all his life. I became aware of it, and he was very against capital punishment anyway, and you can imagine it played a part in getting rid of that.‌"What he was upset about was that she should never of been hanged. He wrote to the Home Secretary at the time and said, 'Please, do not do this. We must change this,' and the Home Secretary at the time refused and disregarded his plea."After hearing the verdict, Nigel explained: "At least she now has a pardon. And as for the family, it's wonderful news for them. When I heard it yesterday, I sort of burst into tears, it was an amazing, emotional moment."Article continues belowAddressing Laura, Nigel went on to say: "Laura, I'm so pleased for you, you must be over the moon."Laura replied: "Thank you so much and thank you for your support.
