Mayor Dada Morero has moved to assure residents of the city's efforts in resolving some of the recent financial challenges faced by the City of Joburg Municipality.
City of Joburg Mayor Dada Morero has unveiled new plans to repay Eskom and settle other outstanding debts that the city has been battling to repay.
This comes as the city has been embroiled in a series of governance and administrative failures that saw the mayor come under fire from the National Treasury after the Minister of Finance, Enoch Godongwana, scolded Morero over the R10.3 billion wage agreement with municipal workers.
In May, Godongwana threatened to cut financial support to Johannesburg unless this agreement is rescinded.
This week, the National Treasury moved to temporarily withhold R13.5 billion in equitable share allocations to municipalities, with R3.6 billion of that affecting the City of Johannesburg.
