Four more alleged members of the Ugly Americans gang have been added to the charge sheet, where the state claims they, together with nine others, carried out a reign of terror for two decades, plaguing the communities of Mitchells Plain, Athlone, and Table View.

The 13 are now expected to face an array of 103 charges, as the charge sheet had initially contained 71. The four were arrested on July 6 and made an appearance at the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson, Captain FC Van Wyk confirmed their arrest: "This office confirms the arrests of the mentioned suspects. Court date: July 8 at Mitchells Plain Court– postponed for Bail application to Friday."

The latest accused, who cannot be identified as yet, are also facing a range of charges. Accused 12, is alleged to have attempted to kill an adult male on February 15, 2024, by intentionally and unlawfully shooting him with a firearm. The state has opted not to identify this witness for safety reasons.
