Chelsea has officially tied down 19-year-old winger Jesse Derry to a new six-year contract running through 2032, then promptly arranged to ship him to Sporting CP on a season-long loan. The deal, announced on July 8, 2026, comes just weeks after Derry made his Premier League debut against Nottingham Forest in May.

The Derry file

During the 2023-2024 season at Crystal Palace’s academy, he racked up 16 goals in 22 U18 appearances. That’s a goal roughly every 1.4 games, which for a wide player at youth level is genuinely impressive output.

Chelsea brought him in last summer, and within his first season at Cobham, he’d already broken through to the senior squad. He made his FA Cup debut before earning that Premier League cameo against Forest.

Born on June 30, 2007, Derry is also an England U19 international. The kid turned 19 eight days before Chelsea announced his new deal.
