A 55-year-old woman’s organs were donated after she was declared brain dead by doctors at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) in Puducherry on Tuesday.According to a press note, Chinnammal of Panruti was admitted to Jipmer on June 28 following a road accident. However, her condition deteriorated. Following the prescribed protocol under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act and after certification by the duly-constituted medical experts, she was declared brain dead on July 4.With the consent of her family, the organs were donated. The donor’s liver, both kidneys, and corneas were retrieved successfully by Jipmer’s transplant teams. The liver and kidneys were allocated and transplanted into suitable recipients through the established organ allocation system, while the corneas will be used to restore vision to patients in need, Jipmer said.
