A leopard that attempted to kill a cow near Hasanur on Wednesday fled into the forest after motorists sounded their vehicle horns.The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on the Dhimbam Ghat Road leading to Hasanur. A motorist travelling by car on the stretch heard the bellowing of a cow and the growls of a leopard near a hairpin bend. On looking towards the spot from inside the vehicle, the motorist saw the leopard gripping the cow by its neck.As the motorist stopped and began recording the incident on a mobile phone, several vehicles behind came to a halt. The continuous honking of vehicle horns startled the leopard, which released the cow and retreated into the forest. The injured animal survived the attack.Motorists have urged the Forest Department to intensify patrolling along the ghat road, citing frequent leopard sightings in the area.
