Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of Parliament and head of Iran’s negotiating team, alongside Kazem Gharibabadi, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, accused the United States of violating the memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington, warning that the Islamic Republic will retaliate against these actions.
Hours after the exchange of strikes between the United States and the Islamic Republic, Ghalibaf wrote in a post on the X platform: “We are not ones to compromise or back down,” adding, “The era of bullying and extortion is over; you will achieve nothing.”
He listed “the violation of Iran’s arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz,” “continuous threats of further military attacks,” “strikes on southern areas of Iran,” “the reinstatement of oil sanctions,” and “the continuation of Israeli attacks on Lebanon” as specific breaches of the 14-point memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington.
Simultaneously, Kazem Gharibabadi announced that the U.S. revocation of sanctions waivers on Iranian oil sales constituted a “gross violation of Clause 10” of the agreement between the two countries, while the recent American military strikes represented a “serious breach of Clauses 1 and 2.”
