The Gujarat government is set to unveil its maiden ‘Gujarat Data Centre Policy 2026-29’, an initiative aimed at establishing the state as India’s premier destination for world-class data centre infrastructure, digital innovation, cloud ecosystem development and sustainable technology investments.Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will unveil the policy, which is expected to provide a dedicated framework to attract investments in hyperscale data centres, cloud infrastructure and AI-led digital services. The policy will complement Gujarat’s broader push to emerge as a leading destination for new-age technology sectors, including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and fintech. The new policy framework will enhance the state’s competitiveness against established data centre hubs such as Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Telangana while reinforcing its ambition to become a leading digital infrastructure destination in India.Investment momentum gathers paceThe policy comes at a time when Gujarat has emerged as one of India’s fastest-growing destinations for data centre investments. Over the past three years, the state has witnessed a series of announcements by hyperscale operators, cloud infrastructure providers and AI-focused developers. The momentum began gathering pace with projects in GIFT City by operators such as CtrlS Datacenters and Yotta Data Services, before expanding to Jamnagar, Dholera and the Ahmedabad region. Gujarat’s growing appeal, driven by reliable power availability, improving fibre connectivity, strategic port infrastructure, a supportive policy environment, and increasing access to renewable energy, has helped create this new ecosystem. The investment pipeline has accelerated further over the past two years with several large-scale proposals spanning AI-ready campuses, hyperscale facilities and edge infrastructure. Among the biggest announcements are Reliance Industries’ proposed AI-focused data centre campus at Jamnagar and Larsen & Toubro’s planned 250 MW AI-ready data centre at Dholera. Other projects announced by companies, including Henox and SEGNOL, have further strengthened Gujarat’s digital infrastructure ecosystem.Focus on incentives and sustainable infrastructureGovernment officials expect the new policy to further accelerate this investment momentum by creating an enabling ecosystem for developers through incentives, streamlined approvals and support for sustainable, energy-efficient infrastructure. Besides attracting fresh investments, the policy seeks to strengthen Gujarat’s position as a preferred location for cloud service providers, enterprise data centres and digital infrastructure supporting both domestic and global markets.Published on July 8, 2026
