Karissa Dumbacher, who is originally from the United States, shared her thoughts after ordering a number of dishes from a fried chicken takeaway and a fish and chip shop08:51, 08 Jul 2026Updated 08:51, 08 Jul 2026An American woman has offered her honest review of British fast food after sampling what's on offer this side of the Atlantic Ocean. Hailing from the US, Karissa Dumbacher is well placed to deliver such a verdict with fast food proving so popular in her her homeland - and she took to Instagram to share her findings.First up, she tried Pepe's Piri Piri, which she'd been told was the "best fast food chain" in the UK and that it was "better than Nando's". Karissa went for two options - chilli-loaded fries and extra hot chicken and rice, which she paired with three pots of garlic mayo to take the edge off the heat."The chicken was delicious and it had a citrus zesty kind of spice... it's every hot, they weren't playing around," she raved, awarding it a solid eight out of 10. "The chicken was so tender and the garlic sauce was creamy AF."Content cannot be displayed without consentWhen it came to the fries, Karissa confessed she was "sceptical" at first, but the jalapenos and crispy onions scattered on top quickly won her over, earning the side a respectable seven out of 10. She noted the fries could have scored higher with a more generous helping of cheese.Next, Karissa tucked into a "heavy" quesadilla, which she described as "packed with really moist chicken". She went on to say: "So much protein, I'm honestly upset they don't have Pepe's in America. Nine out of 10."After being advised that no British adventure is truly complete without a trip to a chippy, that's exactly where Karissa headed next. But not to sample fish - instead she opted for a battered pizza."It's half a pizza instead of fish," she said. "It was more like a bread crust than a crunchy one. Very fluffy, but only a tiny bit of sauce on top. Six out of 10."Karissa then voiced her astonishment upon discovering she could purchase a battered Mars bar too. She praised its "soft gooeyness", but was left underwhelmed by its lack of crispiness on the outside."It was very warm and caramelly though and I didn't hate it - but it was too soft and really needed a sauce." She went on to give it a six out of 10 as well. Also at the chippy, Karissa tucked into a serving of chips and curry sauce. "I think I was expecting more of a traditional curry flavour with a nice warm Indian flavour," she admitted.Instead, Karissa said she found it "very tangy" and "kind of vinegary". After giving it a disappointing four out of 10, she added: "It was a little sweet and kind of cold... I don't know if that's normal, but the chips are definitely better without it."Responding to the post, one Instagram user joked: "You gotta go Pepe's when drunk for the full experience."A second person pondered: "Sounds like the only thing that was really good was the quesadilla."A third slammed: "Nobody ever in my life has ever wanted, asked for or requested deep fried pizza. That isn't English take away, that's just grim."Article continues belowWhile a fourth commented: "Not sure about that chip shop if honest and it doesn't look like curry sauce. That pizza thing well that looks shocking. Try a different chip shop and get curry sauce."
