The African Transformation Movement says the Public Protector must account for the nearly year-long delay in finalising its investigation into suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu.
The African Transformation Movement (ATM) has called on Parliament to summon Public Protector Kholeka Gcaleka to explain why an investigation into a complaint against suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has not been finalised nearly a year after it was lodged.
The party has written to the chairperson of Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development, Xola Nqola, requesting an oversight intervention.
In a letter, ATM parliamentary leader Vuyo Zungula said the complaint was lodged with the Office of the Public Protector on July 7 2025 following allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Mkhwanazi accused Mchunu of political interference in criminal investigations, abusing executive authority, maintaining improper relationships with individuals linked to organised crime and playing a role in the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
