Leader of the African Transformation Movement (ATM), Vuyo Zungula, has decided to challenge Friday’s majority ruling by the Western Cape High Court to interdict Parliament’s Impeachment Committee from having hearings.
Zungula has approached the Constitutional Court to seek leave to appeal Friday’s majority ruling. Judges Diane Davis and Andre le Grange agreed with Ramaphosa, while Judge Matthew Francis delivered a dissenting view.
The court ordered that the committee be interdicted from proceeding with its work pending the outcome of Ramaphosa's review of an independent panel report on Phala Phala, which will be heard in September.
On Friday, chairperson Makashule Gana noted that the interdict only affects public hearings and oral testimonies pending President Cyril Ramaphosa’s review application.
