The Hindasa Foundation has come to the defence of High Commissioner to India, Ambassador Anil Sooklal, amid scrutiny over receiving former president Jacob Zuma and Ajay Gupta in India, stating that he did not act unilaterally or improperly.

Zuma sparked controversy last week after visiting a temple in Haridwar, India, alongside Sooklal and Ajay, a member of the family accused of orchestrating the state capture scandal.

On Friday, DA MP Ryan Smith revealed that it was confirmed to the parliamentary Committee on International Relations that Sooklal received written instructions from the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) to receive Zuma and Ajay.

MK Party spokesperson Sifiso Mahlangu said Zuma is a private citizen and entitled to travel wherever he chooses.
