'We believe in European values. But we are not endorsing our prime minister and our government'
As protests over protected nature areas continue in Albania, independent MP Marjana Koçeku says Brussels must stop treating Edi Rama as the country’s only European voice.
The country’s EU dream has long had a face in Brussels. It is the face of Rama, the fourth-time prime minister who has promised reform and membership by 2030.
But “Rama is not Albania,” Koçeku tells Euractiv. She quit his Socialist Party last month after concluding she no longer belonged there.
“I could not belong anymore to a group that is not only not supporting the environment, but making policies that disrupt it,” she says. “And yes, I have also supported the initiatives of colleagues from the opposition because I consider it my civic right.”
