Ward, of Silvertown in the capital, denies two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration and one count of sexual assault against the woman in Newham, east London.Under cross-examination during his trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court in east London, Ward today said that everything that happened was consensual and described the woman as an 'active participant'. Speaking to Ward, Prosecutor Tracy Ayling KC said: 'You were bent that night on having sex come what may with her, it didn't matter why, it didn't matter when, it was what you wanted, that night.'Ward replied: 'No, it was what we wanted. She was a willing participant in everything that was going on.' He stressed the word 'we' when he said: 'No, it was what we, wanted.'Asked if she had told him her name, Ward laughed and said: 'She had to tell me her name for me to know who she was.'Ms Ayling said: 'This isn't funny Mr Ward.' Would it be polite to take her to the car?'He agreed it wasn't 'polite' but it was not 'impolite' either, adding that he asked her to message him when she had got home safely.Ward added: 'It would definitely be polite, but what I did wasn't impolite.'The court heard they later exchanged messages. Ward sent her a smiling emoji with a heart and she told him to enjoy the rest of his night.Ms Ayling also said: 'I would suggest you were only trying to make sure that she would not report what happened that night.'Ward responded: 'No, I would suggest that would be wrong.'He also told the court: 'I have no interest in being with someone who does not want to be with me.'In a recorded police interview shown to jurors last week, the alleged victim described being given specific instructions to walk behind Ward and not to talk to anyone en route to the car after accompanying him to an afterparty. She described Ward as 'overpowering', adding: 'I tried to leave the vehicle and he told me to close the door.'The jurors heard Ward then made attempts to engage the woman in a sex act - which the woman said lasted on the first occasion for 'no more than three minutes'.She told the police officer on January 13, 2023: 'I didn't touch him at all. I didn't engage with what was going on.' His daughter's mother was on the door taking names from the guest list and his own mother was present. He said: 'It was a party to enjoy the new year with friends and family'.'If you were a friend of my friend, you may be invited, if you were a friend of my mum, you might be invited.'Ward said that after a conversation with the complainant there was 'a good vibe' between them, adding: 'I thought there was mutual interest there'.'It was friendly and flirty. There was an attraction there between us.'Asked if a lot of people made eye contact and showed interest in him, given his line of work, Ward said he would not say so.He added: 'I liked her smile and I liked her confidence.'The party took place during a pause in his work schedule and before his soon-to-be released film.Ward said he thought the woman was 'very cute' when he saw her for the first time outside the venue, as she was with a group of friends. The woman knew Ward was an actor, the court previously heard, and described him as giving off 'normal boy vibes'.Ward, the court previously heard, proceeded to force the woman to engage in the act for a second time, as he allegedly threatened her: 'If I tell you to do it, you do it.''When he told me to do it again I didn't really feel I had a choice,' the complainant said.'He said, "if you are quick you can go".' She added: 'I didn't want to do it'.When asked how she felt at that point, the woman said: 'I was just scared. She said: 'The fact I said I didn't want to do it, that I had to leave, from my body language and the fact I wasn't participating.'I felt it would have been obvious. Because I didn't initiate anything myself.'The woman described suffering from injuries caused by the attack, describing it as being 'uncomfortable to sit' due to swelling and a 'burning sensation'.The pain 'lasted a good two days afterwards', she added. The court heard the woman did not report the crime at the time as she 'didn't really understand what had happened'.She said: 'I felt I couldn't say anything. I think I blame myself and felt a bit stupid.'People talk about these situations and you think you would not be in that situation. I felt a bit silly.' In a second video interview on July 29, 2024, the woman said during the assault she 'knew' she was there 'but felt not really there'.'I felt I had no control of my body or my movements.'The atmosphere shifted during the sexual assault, she described, as Ward 'immediately took control'.She said: 'He wasn't the same person I knew at the start of the party. It didn't seem like a harmless situation. It felt very serious very quick.''He didn't respect what I was saying,' she added. 'All he cared about was what he wanted.'Ward was arrested on January 18, 2023 and told police in a prepared statement: 'I deny the allegation of rape.
