A woman who claims she was raped by Top Boy actor Micheal Ward in the back of a Mercedes said he was 'overpowering', a court has been told. The 28-year-old Bafta-winning actor is alleged to have repeatedly assaulted the woman in his friend's Mercedes-Benz after hosting an 'all white clothing' party at a club in Gant's Hill, London on New Year's Day 2023.Ward, of Silvertown in the capital, denies two counts of rape, two counts of assault by penetration and one count of sexual assault against the woman in Newham, east London. In a recorded police interview shown to jurors on Tuesday, the alleged victim described being given specific instructions to walk behind Ward and not to talk to anyone en route to the car after accompanying him to an afterparty. She described Ward as 'overpowering', adding: 'I tried to leave the vehicle and he told me to close the door.'The jurors heard Ward then made attempts to engage the woman in a sex act - which the woman said lasted on the first occasion for 'no more than three minutes'. She told the police officer on January 13, 2023: 'I didn't touch him at all. I didn't engage with what was going on.' Top Boy star Micheal Ward is accused of raping and sexually assaulting a woman. He denies all charges (pictured at an earlier hearing in August 2025) Ward rose to fame on the Netflix revival of Channel 4 series Top Boy as Jamie (pictured). The drama explores the world of drug dealers in Hackney, east LondonThe woman, who said she felt 'numb' and 'scared', recounted 'wanting it all to be over'.Ward, the court heard, proceeded to force the woman to engage in the act for a second time, as he allegedly threatened her: 'If I tell you to do it, you do it.' 'When he told me to do it again I didn't really feel I had a choice,' the complainant said.'He said, "if you are quick you can go".' She added: 'I didn't want to do it'. When asked how she felt at that point, the woman said: 'I was just scared. I was just ready to leave the situation and I felt at that point I knew I could go because he got what he wanted.' The court was told the pair left the car separately as Ward said he was 'so drunk' and needed to find his cousin. However the complainant added she did not believe he was intoxicated nor did she smell alcohol on him.'He started to talk about work and how busy he had been and how (the party) was a pretty good stress reliever... how big things were coming for him,' the woman said.'At that point I said I'm going to have to go now.'The woman told the female police officer Ward should have known she had not consented. She said: 'The fact I said I didn't want to do it, that I had to leave, from my body language and the fact I wasn't participating. 'I felt it would have been obvious. Because I didn't initiate anything myself.'The woman described suffering from injuries caused by the attack, describing it as being 'uncomfortable to sit' due to swelling and a 'burning sensation'.The pain 'lasted a good two days afterwards', she added. The court heard the woman did not report the crime at the time as she 'didn't really understand what had happened'. She said: 'I felt I couldn't say anything. I think I blame myself and felt a bit stupid.'People talk about these situations and you think you would not be in that situation. I felt a bit silly.' Ward later appeared opposite Olivia Colman in Sam Mendes' 2022 drama Empire of LightThe woman knew Ward was an actor, the court heard, and described him as giving off 'normal boy vibes'.The pair messaged on Snapchat after the incident. She said she did not block him but thought if she ignored him, he would stop contacting her.In a second video interview on July 29, 2024, the woman said during the assault she 'knew' she was there 'but felt not really there'. 'I felt I had no control of my body or my movements.' The atmosphere shifted during the sexual assault, she described, as Ward 'immediately took control'.She said: 'He wasn't the same person I knew at the start of the party.'It didn't seem like a harmless situation. It felt very serious very quick.' 'He didn't respect what I was saying,' she added. 'All he cared about was what he wanted.'Ward was arrested on January 18, 2023 and told police in a prepared statement: 'I deny the allegation of rape. I want to put on record that we had consensual foreplay and consensual sex.' He was later charged on July 25, 2025.The trial, before Judge Rosa Dean, continues. Who is Micheal Ward?
