Speaking on the courthouse steps, he said: "I think she needs some serious help and I hope she gets it."In a calculated bid to swindle his mother out of £43,000, Heather Mook laced his pasta dish with rat poison, along with an anti-depressant medication, before serving it to him.Her sinister plan was to leave her husband sufficiently disorientated to allow her to proceed with the financial crime against his mother. The jury took just two and a half hours to find her guilty, and following the trial it emerged that this was not Mook's first poisoning incident. She actually had a previous conviction dating back to 1982 for poisoning her seven year old daughter, Teresa. In a comparable manner, albeit less serious than her attack on John, she had ground up an anti-depressant tablet and mixed it into her child's food.Adrian Waterman QC, prosecuting, argued that she had access to numerous pills because they had been prescribed to her directly. He stated: "The stealing of the money and the giving of the drugs were linked. She gave him amitriptyline to avoid discovery of her thefts."During the trial, she was described as a 'menace to friends and strangers alike', after it emerged that she had consistently deceived those in her life.On one occasion, she ordered six BMWs using a bank cheque she had managed to obtain. The judge eventually described her as a 'dangerous woman', and imposed an indeterminate sentence.Article continues belowThis meant there was no set date for her release from custody in order to protect the public, though she would become eligible for parole after completing five years in prison. The Poisoning: How to Kill Your Husband, will air on tonight (July 7) on Channel 5.
