Here's everything you need to know about the disturbing case and the current whereabouts of those responsible, reports MyLondon. Is Vengeance: Murder on the Heath based on a true story?Yes, Murder on the Heath is based on a real story. It tells the story of 21-year-old Gagandip Singh who was killed by his friend Harinder ‘Ravi’ Shoker back in 2011. TV executive Gagandip was beaten and left to die as he was put in the boot of a vehicle which was set ablaze in London. At the time, it was branded a 'honeytrap murder' as it garnered media attention nationwide, particularly for the part played by Gagandip’s friend Mundill Mahil who lured him to her home.Gagandip, who was 21 at the time, had a close friendship with Mundill, who alleged he had tried to assault her when he turned up unannounced to her home one night. She confided in Harinder and a plan was hatched to lure Gagandip to the student house where he would be confronted.Channel 4 explains: "After a vicious beating left him unconscious, Gagandip was placed in the boot of his sister’s Mercedes, which was then driven to Blackheath, London, and set on fire."He died a terrible death on Angerstein Lane – a residential road adjacent to the eastern edge of the heath in Blackheath. A post-mortem revealed he was alive when the car was ignited and that he died from inhaling toxic fumes."Mundill had not been in the room at the time of the attack, but during the trial, she was described as "manipulative, vengeful and deceitful", the BBC reported at the time. The drama series will draw from real police interviews as well as text messages, court documents and original interviews as viewers will be plunged into the heart of the young British Sikh community.Aysha Rafaele, Writer and Director said: "As a British Asian filmmaker with a background in documentaries, I am fascinated by real stories from our community that are both specific to the culture but also resonate well beyond it."Everything about the shocking murder of Gagandip Singh and the circumstances surrounding it was to prove extraordinary."How young everyone involved in the case was, how an accusation of attempted rape led to these young people taking the law into their own hands – playing at being God themselves – instead of just going to the police, and how this vigilante style justice backfired so horrifically."It's a haunting crime that continues to cast a long shadow and I am proud to have been able to work with such a talented young cast of up and coming British Asian actors to bring this devastating story to C4."Article continues belowWhere is Harinder 'Ravi' Shoker now?According to reports back in 2012 Harinder was given a life sentence for murder, meaning he would serve at least 22 years.
