Industrial computer maker Advantech Co (研華) yesterday posted record revenue for the second quarter, driven by strong demand for edge artificial intelligence (AI) applications. Second-quarter revenue rose 46 percent year-on-year to NT$26.13 billion (US$812.9 million), while revenue in the first half of this year grew 32.18 percent to NT$46.51 billion, also a record for the same period, Advantech said in a statement. In the first half of the year, the company recorded double-digit year-on-year revenue growth across all major regions except Japan, rising 67 percent in Taiwan, 51 percent in China, 48 percent in South Korea, 30 percent in North America, 29 percent in Europe and 21 percent in emerging markets, Advantech said, adding that in Japan it recorded single-digit growth.

By sector, the intelligent systems and Internet-of-Things automation sectors grew 35 percent and 19 percent respectively, while the intelligent service sector posted single-digit growth, and the embedded sector rose 28 percent, it said. Despite supply chain constraints and raw material cost fluctuations, customer demand remains strong as edge AI applications gain traction, Advantech president Eric Chen (陳清熙) said in the statement.
