European NATO allies plan to provide Ukraine with an additional EUR 70 billion in aid in 2026 and 2027 under a German initiative.
According to an Ukrinform correspondent, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced this while speaking to reporters before departing for the NATO summit in Ankara.
"At Germany's initiative, an agreement is to be reached on providing Ukraine with new additional funding. In 2026 and 2027, the European allies will provide another EUR 70 billion," Merz said.
According to him, Russia's war against Ukraine will be one of the central topics of the NATO summit. He expressed hope that the meeting would usher in the "Spirit of Ankara" and mark an important step toward strengthening allied unity and increasing pressure on Russia.
"I would like us to succeed together in awakening the Spirit of Ankara. This summit should send the following message: we are building a more European NATO so that NATO can remain transatlantic," Merz said.
