The South African Communist Party has criticised Operation Vulindlela, describing it as a neoliberal programme that shifts state functions towards private capital and threatens the country’s National Democratic Revolution.

The South African Communist Party (SACP) has described Operation Vulindlela as the biggest threat to the National Democratic Revolution (NDR), arguing that the government’s economic reform programme is driving a shift towards greater private sector involvement in state operations.

The party said its Politburo had discussed the national political situation, including what it described as the deepening of neoliberalism within the state, as well as matters affecting workers and the National Democratic Revolution.

The SACP said Operation Vulindlela had become “the highest expression of the rightward shift of South African state policy”, arguing that it cut across government policy, systems and operations.

The party said the programme was centred on liberalising state operations and creating partnerships between the state and private capital.
