From morphology to genomes, Karol Marhold explains how taxonomy has changed.
“How are you going to protect anything if you don’t know about it?” asks Karol Marhold from the Institute of Botany of the Plant Science and Biodiversity Centre, Slovak Academy of Sciences.
One of Europe’s leading botanists, his work has mainly been in taxonomy - focusing not only on correct classification of plants, but how they are related and how they evolve, Marhold spoke to The Slovak Spectator about how knowing more about plants can help protect them, how taxonomy has changed over the years, the impact of digitisation on research and how the public can help in the study of plants.
