MANILA, Philippines — The enhanced southwest monsoon, or habagat, may affect many areas as Super Typhoon Bavi nears the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the state weather bureau said on Tuesday, July 7.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Veronica Torres said during its 5 am weather advisory that Bavi and the enhanced southwest monsoon may bring heavy rains over the northern and western portions of the country in the coming days.

“It (Bavi) could still draw in the southwest monsoon, so we can expect many areas to be affected by it in the coming days,” Torres said.
