Newcastle United has reportedly struck a deal with Ajax to acquire 18-year-old midfielder Sean Steur for a fee of up to €27 million. The reported transfer lacks confirmation and significantly exceeds Steur’s current market valuation.
Who is Sean Steur?
Born on January 11, 2008, Steur has been part of the Ajax ecosystem since joining the club’s renowned youth academy in 2016. He turned professional in May 2024, ascended to the senior squad during the 2024-25 season, and made his UEFA Champions League debut in the 2025-26 season.
Ajax extended his contract on August 14, 2025, tying him down through June 30, 2028. That deal makes any transfer significantly more complicated and more expensive, which goes some way toward explaining why a reported fee would exceed what pure market metrics might suggest.
Newcastle is far from the only club watching. Reported interest also includes Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Liverpool, all of whom were linked to Steur in February 2026 updates.
