England midfielder Jordan Henderson is expected to undergo surgery on the wrist he injured while celebrating his side’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Mexico, raising doubts over his involvement in the remainder of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 36-year-old suffered the injury after appearing to fall awkwardly over the advertising hoardings during England’s celebrations at the Estadio Azteca following Sunday’s Round of 16 triumph.

England manager Thomas Tuchel confirmed after the match that the injury appeared serious and that Henderson had been taken to hospital.

“Jordan just fell over and injured his wrist. It looks really bad,” Tuchel told BBC One after the victory.
