The Madlanga Commission may request more time from President Cyril Ramaphosa if they don’t meet the deadline.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has indicated he is prepared to consider extending the Madlanga Commission's deadline if commissioners conclude they need more time to complete their work, as mounting setbacks threaten the inquiry's timetable.

Speaking to journalists on Monday during the Chris Hani Regional Volunteers Launch at Qamata Great Place in Cofimvaba, Ramaphosa praised the commission's progress while leaving the door open for a possible extension.

“I am very pleased with the work that is being done with the Madlanga Commission. It may well be that they need a little bit more time and I'll listen to that request if it comes,” he said.

The commission is working under intense pressure to conclude public hearings by July 31, while Ramaphosa has already extended its overall mandate, with the final report due by August 31.
