College students, who were evicted from a Government Social Justice hostel in Manamadurai for lack of approval to allow college students to stay in the hostel constructed for school students, appealed to the district administration to reinstate them immediately.A Government Social Justice hostel for school students functions under the Backward Classes Welfare Department in the Seikalathur area in Manamadurai, Sivaganga district.Since school students were not staying in that hostel, the district’s Backward Classes Welfare Department officials have been taking steps to convert it into a college hostel.Meanwhile, more than 20 students from the Government Arts College, which was started in that area last year, were accommodated in hostel. However, approval has not been received from the government so far. Following this, the college students staying in the hostel were evicted.The affected students submitted a petition at the Sivaganga District Collector P. Akash.The district Backward Classes Welfare Department officials said that the government permits accommodating college students in school hostels if the number of school students decreases.“School students do not come to that hostel. We have sent a proposal to the government seeking approval to convert it into a college hostel so that not only arts college students, but also nearby government ITI students can stay there.
