Demanding to provide admission for students at Salem Government Arts and Science College, parents and students are staging a sit-in protest on the college premises on Thursday evening (June 11, 2026).At the Government Arts College in Kumarasamipatti, the second counselling for the admissions was held on Thursday and over 700 students, with their parents, visited the college. In the evening, the college administration announced that the seats were filled and the students will be called again in July. Irked by this, more than 100 students with their parents are staging a sit-in protest, which was continuing post 9 p.m. The police and college administration continue to hold talks with the parents and students.College professors said that this year, 1.31 lakh students applied for 1,702 seats in the college. For the second counselling on Thursday, around 800 students were invited, including those from BC, BC (M), MBC, SC, and ST. The seats for MBC, SC, and ST were filled. As the BC and BC (M) seats were not filled, we asked the parents and students to come again in July, and these seats will be filled in conversion.
