A farmer has been arrested on the eastern Aegean Sea island of Lesvos for alleged cruelty to animals after a complaint over her treatment of three goats, authorities said Monday.
A police statement said the arrest took place Sunday near the village of Polychnitos on southern Lesvos, where the woman has her farm. It said she was found to have hobbled three of her goats by tying two of each animal’s legs together diagonally.
“This limited their natural freedom of movement,” the statement said.
It said the suspect also faced a fine, which can range from €5,000-15,000 per animal.
