Coimbatore Corporation has proposed the construction of a new link bridge at Linganoor in Ward 41 to ease traffic congestion caused by the existing narrow bridge. The project is estimated to cost ₹2 crore.According to the proposal, the existing bridge, which is around four metres wide, has become a traffic bottleneck owing to the increasing volume of vehicles. The bridge, built across a stream carrying runoff from the Marudhamalai hills, connects Marudhamalai Road and Siruvani Road. To improve traffic flow, the Corporation has proposed constructing a new link bridge adjacent to the existing structure.Corporation officials said only one car can pass through the existing bridge at a time. When buses, trucks or other large vehicles approach from the opposite direction, one vehicle has to wait for the other to cross, resulting in delay and congestion that often extend to Marudhamalai Road. The proposed bridge is expected to provide an additional crossing, improve connectivity between Marudhamalai Road and Siruvani Road, and reduce congestion during peak hours. The Corporation will soon invite tenders for the ₹2-crore project, following which the construction of the new link bridge will commence.
