The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is set to start work on the 448-metre bridge across the railway tracks at LC2A on Ennore High Road in north Chennai. The work will be completed in 18 months. As the traffic police has accorded permission for road closure for the project from June 6, 2026 to December 5, 2027, the civic body is planning to start work on June 12. Traffic will be diverted to Manali Road and Thoppai Vinayagar Koil Street during the bridge construction.Chennai Corporation officials said the bridge is expected to ease traffic congestion in north Chennai and improve connectivity between Wall Tax Road near Chennai Central Railway Station and areas such as Tiruvottiyur and Manali.The bridge is estimated at ₹75 crore. The structure will have a 10-metre-wide carriageway with 0.5-metre crash barrier on both sides. The civic body will also construct a 5-metre-wide service road with a 1.5-metre footpath and a stormwater drain with dimensions of 1.5 metres x 1.5 metres. A total of 2558 sq m, including 1277 sq m of patta land and 1281 sq m of government land is also required for the construction of the bridge, officials said.The civic body is set to commence work on another bridge near Korukkupet Railway Station at LC2 shortly. “LC2 is the last level crossing in the city within Chennai Corporation zones.
