Tereske Kabuika, 19, from Atlantis, is dominating the world of women's rugby.

A teenager who started playing rugby over a year ago has had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity after she received a call-up for the Springboks Junior Women’s team.

Tereske Kabuika, 19, from Avondale in Atlantis, is a well-known sporting figure in the community, having won various medals and competed in competitions since her early years at Parkview Primary School.

While Kabuika was known to dominate the athletics field in the 100m and 200m track events, making it to the South African championships, she had no idea how her life would change in a moment of curiosity.

“At first, someone told me to make a switch to rugby. I said no. One girl invited me to train in Mamre and see how it goes. I went in March/April last year, and I have been going ever since,” Kabuika says shyly.
