Basic education minister Siviwe Gwarube
Long-delayed guidelines meant to stop LGBTQIA+ pupils being bullied in SA schools are finally about to be completed, basic education minister Siviwe Gwarube confirmed on Monday.
Gwarube also poured cold water on claims that the guidelines would compel schools to adopt unisex bathrooms and uniforms.
The guidelines, first drafted in 2021, were meant to give schools practical direction on how to handle requests from pupils of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities without discriminating against them.
They would not be binding on schools.
